From Peacekeeper to the Top of Playlists
Pianist-composer A. Blomqvist is Spotify's most-listened-to Finnish artist in the field of classical music. The musician, who is approaching 100 million streams, has an astonishing background.
For the Jyväskylä-born artist, who turns 30 next year, music has always been a matter of the heart. He began piano lessons at the age of 4, but in adulthood, his path led to a completely different sphere of life. Serving in the Defense Forces and as a peacekeeper in the Middle East, Blomqvist felt he was doing meaningful work for peace and security. However, his passion for music remained strong over the years, and in 2019 he decided to fulfill his dream. With his heartfelt music, he still feels he is advocating for peace, this time on a personal level, listener by listener.
So far, he has amassed an astonishingly wide audience, and his journey as a music maker is unparalleled. Known as one of the great nations of classical music, Finland has found a new star. It is high time for Finns themselves to wake up to this achievement. With 100 million streams and one million monthly listeners, A. Blomqvist is by far the most-played artist in his genre. This has also been recognized by the music industry, and the artist has signed an international recording contract with Sony Masterworks/XXIM. In the pop music field, only a few of Finland's most famous artists, such as ALMA, Käärijä, and Darude, reach similar numbers.
Blomqvist is currently working on an album that reflects the Finnish nature and soulscape, from which the single "Pohjola" will be released in September.
